To those who are not familiar with the term production house? Production houses are organizations engaged in the business of making Films, Web Series, Documentaries, Adfilms, Music Videos, Audio-Visual, Testimonials, Motion Graphics, etc. It can be called a production house or company; it totally depends on how you want to perceive it. They are a team of highly creative individuals coming together to build a creative film for the end user to entertain, and inform them about the story, business or service!
The difference between a video production company and a movie production company can be defined as A video production company producing all kinds of videos, whereas a movie production company produces videos for theatrical, streaming, or television broadcast distribution.
Some of these production houses also go on to win big awards and accolades at various international and national magazines, shows, and events such as the Oscars, Cannes, IIFA, TIFF, MAMI, etc.
Why do we need production houses?
Production houses are highly experienced organizations in the business of making films and adfilms. Where an organization that doesn’t employ a creative at their end could use external companies such as agencies or production houses to make creative film production solutions for their brand/product/ or service!

How does a production company operate?
Production company unlike any other organization works on client demands. However, this time the clients could be an Ad Agency, a Product company or MNC. Firstly, the client briefs the production houses about the task at hand. After the briefing, the production company gather all the resources for the task by doing research and developing the first draft of the pitch. However, this draft is not yet sent to the client yet. Because it still lacks many important details. After all, this is completed. A pitch is built and goes into a comprehensive feedback loop at the organization before sending it to the client. Once the pitch is finalized then it is sent to the client for approval.
Once, the clients approve the pitch it is moved into motion or else a revision is needed. However, if the client doesn’t like the pitch, they could simply decline it and look for another company that matches their thought process.
When should we hire a production house?
Generally, production houses are usually involved from the beginning of the campaign providing creative inputs at every stage of the development. However, it depends on the company when to hire a production house, if they have an internal creative team who can work on the screenplay and build a script then production houses are involved to shoot the film otherwise it is involved from the start; pre to post-production. Usually, production houses are hired by advertising agencies such as Ogilvy, WPP, DDB
Which production company should we choose?
Well, it totally depends on what kind of service you are looking out to derive from the production house! It could be writing a script for your next DVC (Digital Video Content) or it could be simply taking product photoshoots. It varies from client to client. However, to gain more benefit from a production company you should first focus on your needs and then select a company that pioneers in that segment. I’d suggest you look for small boutique companies that have a track record of performing and delivering results consistently. Or you can look for someone who has earned/been recognized by awards or startup publications. Because getting awarded in a fast-paced industry is in itself an achievement.
How much does it cost to hire a production company?
Certainly, this question is quite argumentative, firstly it depends on what your company is looking to make. Is it a DVC or TVC? Or is it just a stop motion; it totally depends on what you are looking for. Production houses are creative mega factories where you can send your simplest to most complicated message to your audience through films. Sometimes, your firm might need a stop motion ad for social but sometimes it may be a 30 sec DVC for certain topicals or campaigns. Let’s just say that each project is different and might require different costing. Sometimes a creative could be done in 50k whereas sometime it could charge more than 8Lac and then sometimes when a major TVC is happening a big star is included it can go to crores of rupees.

Well, with the internet being with us 24/7, the nearest place you can find a production company is on google. Simply search “Top Production houses in Mumbai” or “Production houses near me”! Production houses are usually situated in the mainland of Bollywood, Hollywood, etc. However, some production company operates out of the small city to better cater to the need of small business as not all business can afford big production house cost.
Whom should we contact in the production company?
In my opinion, you should try to write a mail to them, however, be patient for a reply as these are a highly fast-paced organization where each minute something is happening a slight delay is accepted. Usually, you’ll get a reply from them the same day however on some occasions the reply can come in a day or two. You can even call them with your project ideas, mostly a call can be the quickest way inside the shop. In the end, it depends on how urgent your project is. And how quickly you want to complete it.
